On February 26, at 7:30 pm, the Talea Ensemble performs a program of Georg Friedrich Haas' compositions for large ensembles at the Bohemian National Hall. Highlights of the program include the US premiere of Haas' 2009 work for chamber orchestra and soprano ...wie stille brannte das Licht, with the acclaimed soprano Tony Arnold. Talea Ensemble will also give the US premiere of Haas' 2015 work I can't breathe (in memoriam Eric Garner) for solo trumpet, performed by Gareth Flowers. The work was written in response to Garner's tragic death during his arrest by the NYPD in 2014. In addition, the program includes tria ex uno, a reference to Josquin Desprez's Missa L'homme armé, and La profondeur, a work that plumbs the depths of orchestration, with the gamut of pitches ranging less than two octaves, with no note higher than the top of the bass clef. The event is free. For registration and more information, visit acfny.org.
