Quentin Angus

From jazz to twelve-tone to graphic notation, the program will present compositions by composers who utilize diverse methods of composition.  Quentin Angus has won awards as a jazz composer and performer from Downbeat Magazine, ASCAP and more. Joyce Solomon Moorman has won awards in international composition competitions, including Vienna Modern Masters Millennium Orchestral Competition for Women Composers. J. D. Parran is a noted jazz and avant-garde multi-woodwind performer, who appears on recordings with Anthony Braxton, Anthony Davis, and many other avant-garde luminaries.  Douglas Anderson has been a guest composer at the Bar Harbor Music Festival and composer in residence for 'A Potpourri of Song', and interviewed many times on radio, television, and the internet. His CDs of his compositions have been released by Navona and Ravello Records.

A partial listing of the performers and compositions to be performed includes the ensemble Eight Strings and a Whistle performing Anderson's composition, Reverse Variations on Arkansas Traveler. Moorman's Race Riot'64(tenor sax, trumpet, drumset), which won a performance award in the 2000 Andy Warhol Composition Competition sponsored by the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts, will include J. D. Parran as a performer. Quinton Angus will perform two of his works for guitar, piano and bass, New York Muster and Playtime, and one by Douglas Anderson. J. D. Parran will perform his solo composition for tenor sax, Create the Truth.
