NY-Japanese Women Jazz Composers (NYJWJC) is aiming for a cultural exchange and understanding through the presentation of a mixture of Japanese culture and the American music of jazz interpreted by five Japanese women composers.

The concert will feature five award-winning, NY-based women Japanese jazz composers: Miho Hazama, Asuka Kakitani, Migiwa Miyajima, Meg Okura, and Noriko Ueda. The 17-piece Sakura Jazz Orchestra, comprised of some of New York's most established modern big band musicians, will be conducted by several of composers while others will play in the ensemble.

This special night will feature not only great music by Japanese women jazz composers but will also represent other fine Japanese culture.

For this first event, NYJWJC will collaborate with sake sommelier Kazuhiro Kinoshita, who will select specific sake to capture the character of each individual composition. Valentine's Day-themed food will also be provided.
