The first half of Faye-Ellen Silverman's faculty recital will be the world premiere of the piano concerto Candlelight (1988), performed on two pianos by Baron Fenwick and Ziang Xu. The second half will be the world premiere of Silverman's A Free Pen (1990), a thirty-three minute cantata on freedom of speech, conducted by Matthew Jenkins Jaroszewicz and narrated by Broadway star Jerry Dixon. The libretto, compiled by the composer from historical and literary documents on Socrates, Spinoza, Zenger and others, deals with the struggles for free speech which have been going on since ancient Greek times.
