Concerts on the Slope Presents: Quartet for the End of Time

Sunday, February 7, 2016, at 2:00 pm

This is an archived event, not part of the current festival.

St. John's Episcopal Chuch
139 St. Johns Place
Brooklyn, NY

This Sunday afternoon concert will feature one of the most significant works of the twentieth century, Olivier Messiaen's Quatuor pour la fin du temps. Preceding the work, Concerts on the Slope is thrilled to present a work by this season's Composer in Residence, Reena Esmail, whose music beautifully merges the sounds and traditions of Western and Indian music. Tasveer, for the same instrumentation as the Messiaen, was composed after spending a year in India, and features weaving trills passing off between the instruments, transforming into the wispy sounds of Hindustani ornamentation.

Presented by Concerts on the Slope.

Performers:
Sheng-Ching Hsu, violin
Eric Umble, clarinet
Benjamin Larsen, cello
Daniel Epstein, piano

Reena Esmail, composer
