Our Mission

The growing   disparity of wealth is further limiting the economic and educational opportunities of children living in poverty.

Underserved children with learning disabilities are particularly destined to a life of failures.  Learning disabilities are complicated and are often misunderstood.

Our mission.  We believe all children deserve the chance to learn.  Learning disabilities have nothing to do with how smart a child is; they simply impair a child's ability to read, write and learn in the normal way.  Left untreated, learning disabilities often lead to behavioral problems and low-self esteem, increasing the risk for more serious problems such as depression, substance abuse and crime.

Thousands of children in NYC schools are suffering from learning disabilities.  More than 80% of these children will drop out before they receive a high school diploma, significantly decreasing their chances of finding meaningful work that can help break the cycle of poverty.  The Department of Education lacks the ability to identify properly all of the children who suffer from learning disabilities and the necessary private evaluations are costly.  More importantly, the parents of the children we serve have few resources and little knowledge of the system, not even knowing where to begin to get help for their child.
