Coro's alumni join the most diverse and engaged leadership community in the city. Together they explore current policy, continue to learn and connect with one another as they engage in public issues and civic life.
In a city as complex and diverse as ours, it isn't just the mayors and chief executives who shape our future. At Coro we believe that meaningful change must also come from those in business and communities, schools and unions, government and advocacy groups – not all with formal titles – who have the ideas and the conviction to do more.
And for 30 years no other group has put this insight into practice more successfully than Coro. We are a community of over 2,000 graduates who, through our single and collaborative efforts make the city great. We are the Executive Director in Red Hook rebuilding the lives of Brooklyn families most severely affected by Hurricane Sandy; Deputy Mayor developing innovative new ideas to tackle poverty in New York City; the high school students who are advising the Mayor and his staff to create a more just and effective discipline code in our public schools.
These people came away from Coro with a deeper understanding of how policy is shaped, the skills to lead change in their organizations and communities, and a network of engaged and influential alumni to help them reach their goals. They are part of a collaborative community with a shared belief that a single person, with the right knowledge, skills, and networks, is what will make New York a better place for all who live and work here.
Our Theory of Change was developed to reflect the change we want to see in the world and guide our current and future programs.
