Jared Trudeau

Jared Trudeau- MFA, BA

Jared Trudeau is the second graduate of the MFA in Voice Pedagogy for Musical Theatre program at Penn State. Jared attended Tufts University for his undergraduate studies, intent on becoming a doctor. During his sophomore year, he realized that he did not want to be a physician and that he had to help people through music. He performed lead roles in operas and musicals, in addition to musically directing many productions and teaching voice lessons.  He ultimately graduated summa cum laude with degrees in Music and Psychology, being the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award for the Department of Music as well as the Sal Soraci Prize for combining excellence in Psychology with a demonstrated interest in the humanities.  During his senior year, he wrote Belting Beauties and Soaring Sopranos: Voice Pedagogy to Address the Wide-Ranging Needs of Women in Musical Theatre, for which he received Highest Thesis Honors. While doing his research, he met Mary Saunders-Barton from Penn State.

Following Tufts, Jared enrolled in the MFA program at Penn State. Over the next three years, he immersed himself in classes in vocal pedagogy, acting, voice & speech, dance, and somatics, resulting in his holistic approach to teaching voice. During his studies, it was a running joke that he completed all of the coursework for a mini-BFA within his terminal degree. Jared also performed lead roles in both opera and musical theatre productions including Cosi fan tutte (Ferrando), Little Women the opera (John Brooke), Avenue Q (Rod), Bernstein's Mass (Rock Singer/Celebrant cover), and Poems and Moon Songs. He also spent two summers performing in and musically directing for the Nu Musicals Festival.

Jared has been a guest lecturer and clinician in Pennsylvania, New York, and all over New England. He has presented research on cross-training the singing voice and the integration of spoken and singing voice technique at several academic conferences. In addition to teaching for CAP21, Jared maintains a private studio and works with MTCA. His students have been accepted to BFA and BM programs and performed all over the country in regional, national tour, and Broadway productions.
