Ryan Cantwell

Musical director, coach, accompanist, producer and teaching artist, Ryan has worked primarily in Los Angeles the past 8 years, traveling to New York as the opportunities arose. He is now based out of NY, crossing to LA when needed. Ryan's MD credits include: Babes in Toyland (PASADENA PLAYHOUSE), west cost premiere of Out of My Head (RYAN SCOTT OLIVER original musical), Runaways (EDINGURGH FRINGE FESTIVAL 2009), Seasons of Love (LUCKMAN FINE ARTS COMPLEX). In addition to playing the majority of shows he has musically directed, he has also accompanied for master classes and private sessions with George Hamilton (national tour; LA CAGE AUX FOLLES), Lisa Vroman (KPCC PASADENA POPS master class series), Paul Simon (GRAMMY FOUNDATION). Ryan has served many schools and groups from LAUSD to NYC private schools, including; the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (6 years), CAP21 (Practicum and Professional Programs), Metropolitan Educational Theatre Network (MET 2 America). Ryan is the owner and manager of the Arroyo Recording Studio where he has produced and recorded: RACE (2007 SUNDANCE FEATURE with GLORIA ALLRED), Mirden (Minni Jo, THE HOMES/PARKS AND RECREATION), Bill Bogard (PASADENA MAYOR, narrative), It's About Time (NYMPH FESTIVAL FINALIST original musical), as well as full orchestral trackings of Dreamgirls, Beauty and the Beast, Annie, Wedding Singer and Runaways. He has been honored by the Robert Preston award for musical theatre excellence, the ASCAP singer/songwriter grant (2005 and 2006, GRAMMY FOUNDATION), in addition to multiple UCLA music and music composition scholarships.
