This program is open to current high school juniors. Current sophomores are encouraged to audition, but preference will go to Junior students first.
Students participating in Musical Theatre College Audition Prep Program ONLY:
Admission is through application, vocal/acting audition and interview, including a $35 application fee. There is also a required interview and additional preparation necessary before the start of the program. See more details below.
Students participating in 4-Week Summer Pre-College Musical Theatre Training Program PLUS Musical Theatre College Audition Prep Program:
This one week program immediately follows the four week Summer Pre-College Musical Theatre Training Program. No additional audition, application or application fee is required.
APPLICATION AND AUDITION PROCESS
Admission is through application, vocal/acting audition and interview. The application portion should be sent in before the audition date. You may call and schedule an audition at any point during the application process. The application process includes the following:
- Application Form
- Current headshot and resume
- 2 letters of recommendation. These can be sent in with the application or sent in separately. We require that the recommender fills out our Recommendation Form
- $35.00 application fee. Payable by check, credit card or money order. This fee is non-refundable.
- Audition & Interview via DVD or in person
For the audition, please prepare 2 uptempo songs and 2 ballads. The songs should be 32 bars each and demonstrate a personal connection to the material. Bring appropriately marked sheet music in the key you will be singing. An accompanist will be provided. Also, please prepare 2, one-minute contemporary monologues. Try to find one dramatic and one comedic monologue from published plays or screenplays. Please select age appropriate material that you connect with. If you are unable to audition in person due to the fact that you live outside of the Tri-State area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut), please make a DVD of your audition and send it in with your application. Audition requirements for DVDs are the same as in person, except we ask that you tell us a bit about yourself at the beginning of your DVD so we can get a feel of your personality. Please introduce your pieces before you perform them. If you choose to audition via DVD, then you must also schedule a phone interview. We will contact you to set up the interview once your DVD audition has been assessed.
CAP21 accepts on a rolling admission basis. Students are notified of acceptance or decline within ten business days of their audition and interview. Students who apply/audition after the program is filled are placed on a wait-list.
All applicants must demonstrate the following proficiencies for admission to the Musical Theatre College Audition Prep Program:
- Demonstrate willingness to prepare sufficient material prior to start of program.
- A desire to develop audition and interview skills.
- An openness and willingness to learn from faculty and peers
- A healthy vocal instrument in order to fully participate in program
- Sufficient English skills and ability to comprehend language.
