Composer and pianist Ramin Amir Arjomand's increasingly legendary improvisations have drawn attention both in the United States and abroad. On Saturday, February 22 at 8 pm, Arjomand will present a long-form solo recital in Barnard College's Sulzberger Parlor. Arjomand's playing draws as much on a 19th-century European approach to piano resonance as it does on the unfettered sensibility of American avant-garde jazz, testing the limits of virtuosity and sound intensity in a musical journey that is difficult to characterize but uniquely memorable. Beneath the sound surface lies a musical ethos that can only be described as distinctly Iranian.

The event is free and open to the public, lasting 60-80 minutes without intermission. Late seating will not be permitted; therefore, be sure to arrive on time.

Directions: Enter through the main gate of Barnard College at Broadway and W117th Street, and proceed directly ahead into Barnard Hall. Sulzberger Parlor is located on the 3rd floor.
