New York, NY

Steve Sandberg was musical director and composer for "Dora the Explorer" and "Go, Diego, Go!", has conducted on and off Broadway and was nominated for three Emmys. He has studied classical piano since age 4; is deeply involved in the New York Latin music scene; and has toured with David Byrne, Ruben Blades, and Bebel Gilberto. His latest project, "Alaya" begins with a solo piano recital of Bach, Haydn, Ravel, and Chopin, and continues with the quartet's soaring improvisations on music that draws from classical, African, Latin, Balkan and Indian traditions. Alaya has been called "music from a country I've never been to but always wanted to visit."

This concert will be the quartet's first performance with guest violinist Mark Feldman. Premieres will include "Janos," based on Bartok's "Three Folksongs from the Country of Csik", and "Eusebius," based on two pieces from Schumann's "Scenes from Childhood."

"A great combination of different genres ... received a well-deserved standing ovation." (Asaf Blasberg newsletter)
